Electric Cars Set For Big WIN Over Petrol, Diesel Ones at 2023 World Car Awards

There are hardly any gasoline cars to be seen in the recent "Top 3" list released by World Car Awards.

The list of top 3 selections for various categories of the World Car Awards is now out and electric cars seem to be the absolute favourites this year. Across every category of the prestigious awards, electric cars dominate the rankings in the top 3 list. What’s more, all of the top 3 cars nominated for the biggest award – World Car of the Year – are electric. This is a clear indicator of where the automotive industry is heading and what the popular choice of transport shall be in the time to come.

For those unaware, World Car Awards is an award program held every year since 2004 to recognize excellence in the automotive industry in that year. It is considered to be the top awards program in the world, with a team of over 100 jurors from over 30 countries across the world voting for the best car in the world that year. The World Car Awards currently have six categories, with the top award being that of “World Car of the Year.”

This year’s awards are set to conclude on April 5, as the winners of each of the six awards will be announced on the date at the New York Motor show. For now, here is a look at the top three contenders in each category

Note that the cars highlighted in green in each of these categories are completely battery-powered, showing their “electric” nature, while those in blue have hybrid versions on offer. The complete dominance of electric cars in the new list builds on last year’s trend, where we saw several EVs making it to the top 3. However, there were only minute traces of electric cars in the 2020 finalists list for World Car of the Year.

So, we know that the rise in popularity, as well as the performance of EVs is only growing with time, which makes sure that EVs are only going to be even more popular in the time to come. In fact, we might not be far from the time when World Car of the Year shall have only EVs as finalists in all categories.
