Tata Motors to Have EV Exclusive Showrooms in India Soon

The first such showroom may be set up in Delhi-NCR

Tata Motors may soon have exclusive showrooms for its electric vehicle (EV) lineup in India as indicated in a recent report. These showrooms are currently said to be in the planning stage and may start coming up in different cities of India within the next financial year. It is likely that the first of such showrooms by Tata Motors will be located in Delhi-NCR.

The move has been hinted at in a recent report by The Economic Times. It cites a company spokesperson saying, “We are seeing good growth in EVs and are actively considering dealership formats” for the showrooms that will exclusively sell the electric vehicles made by the automaker. As per the report, the EVs will be sold under the Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) franchisee, while the regular IC engine vehicles will be billed to Tata Passenger Vehicles.

The move comes as the company reels in more and more EV sales with each passing month. Tata Motors has been at the forefront of India’s EV revolution with an EV on offer in almost every vehicle category. Now, the EV subsidiary of the Indian auto giant wants a new strategy for sales and is reportedly planning for the design, location, and number of showrooms across the country. The ET report states that the plans will be finalised within the first quarter of the financial year 2024 and the showrooms will be opened in several locations over the next six to twelve months.

At present, the company plans to set up ten such EV-exclusive stores in the top ten Tier-2 cities of India. These showrooms may focus on the commercial EVs offered by Tata Motors. The first such showroom, however, is likely to be opened in Delhi-NCR, and will likely showcase the three electric cars currently sold in India by the company. No more details have been shared on the move as of now.

It will be interesting to see how the new EV-exclusive showrooms by Tata Motors fare once they open up across the country. The company already sells three very popular electric cars in India, namely Tata Tiago EV, Tata Tigor EV as well as the Tata Nexon EV. Other than these, it has several concept EVs in the lineup, including Harrier EV, Sierra EV, Avinya, and Curvv. Once these are out as production models, Tata Motors will have sufficient products to populate its EV showrooms in India, making more sense for such retail spaces for the company.
