Renault has announced the return of the legendary Renault 5 hatchback as an all-electric car, with a global debut scheduled for the Geneva International Motor Show on February 26. Images show the Renault 5 E-Tech paying respect to its predecessor, the Renault 5 Turbo, with slightly different design components to suit its now-electric nature.
As per the details shared by Renault so far, we know that the reworked Renault 5 will be based on Renault’s AmpR Small platform. It will feature cutting-edge Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology that allows for energy delivery to the grid—a first among production electric cars. The teased features include a headlamp design that resembles a human eye, a charger placed at the front air intake, and wheel arches and back fascia meant for aerodynamics.
The Renault 5 E-Tech’s headlamps and charging port lid, which form the number “5”, are important design aspects. Its special appeal comes from its wider stance, aerodynamic upgrades, and side graphics evocative of the Renault 5 Turbo.
Renault’s redesign of the Renault 5 into an electric hatchback marries its legacy with cutting-edge electric technology. The Renault 5 E-Tech is a pioneering step in the electric vehicle category, possibly offering Indian consumers a thrilling and creative driving experience. That is, of course, as and when the electric hatchback makes its way to India.
