Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its latest concept car, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo 6 or AMG Vision GT 6, at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai. The futuristic vehicle promises an incredible performance through 430 kW (585 horsepower) of power and 800 Nm of torque. It houses this powerhouse within an appealing design with extreme proportions. The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo will be on exhibit at the Cultural Centre until May 2024, with users able to interact with a video of the car via a QR code.
Before we delve further into the latest model, here is a brief history of the concept vehicle. Mercedes-Benz first unveiled the “Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo” on 20 November 2013. This innovation was continued in 2014 with the arrival of the “Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series.” Launched on 28 January 2014, this variant was inspired by the racing cars of Mercedes itself and successfully retained the essence of its previous model undergoing significant technological enhancements. Over the last decade, this lineage of concept cars has been responsible for several iconic Mercedes-Benz cars, including the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the Mercedes-AMG GT.
The new AMG Vision Gran Turismo comes as the third concept car in India by Mercedes-Benz, following the Vision Maybach 6 and Concept EQG. Lance Bennett, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz India, highlighted the company’s vision with the AMG Vision Gran Turismo – “Mercedes-AMG GT 6 accentuates our hallmark design philosophy, evoking emotions through its styling. With this vehicle we reiterate the desirability and exclusivity that is core to our brand, inspiring discerning customers and brand enthusiasts, world over.”
The AMG Vision Gran Turismo has a striking style, with a long bonnet that smoothly transitions into a small greenhouse. The rear end, which resembles an aerodynamically efficient water drop, adds to the car’s dynamic atmosphere. The slanted headlights and notable wheel arches add to the dynamic, ready-to-leap-forward appearance.
A notable detail is the recreation of the wide Mercedes-Benz sports car grille with a centre star, symbolising the renowned 300 SL race vehicle from 1952. The grille uses LEDs instead of traditional louvres and has a variable LED grille with multiple light patterns, which evolved from the diamond grille launched with the new A-Class.
With this advanced technological concept now on display, many Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts will be anticipating to see it enter the production lines soon. It remains to be seen how and when this vision turns into a reality.
