Mercedes seems to be going electric in a whole new way, by bringing a brand new EV for the masses. The German luxury car maker is working on an all-electric version of its most affordable offering in its international markets – the Mercedes-Benz CLA. In a recent video, an electrified version of the CLA was spotted testing near the Arctic Circle and seems to be on its way to production soon.
For those unaware, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the electric CLA Concept back in September last year as the first model in a new series of entry-level EVs. The EV was nicknamed the “one-litre car” for its long range and is supposed to be a competitor to the Tesla Model 3. The all-electric CLA has now been spotted winter-testing in Scandinavia in a new video.
Shared by CarSpyMedia on YouTube, the video shows a couple of units of the 2025 Mercedes-Benz CLA EV in camouflage making test runs on the roads in Scandinavia. While the cars are mostly covered, the video gives us a good look at the overall silhouette of the EVs as they drive by, including the shark-nose design and the seamless grille at the front. 2025 Mercedes-Benz CLA EV – What to Expect?
The electrified CLA is likely to be based on the MMA platform which we have seen on the Vision EQXX. As reported by Electrek, it is expected to offer a 750 km driving range on a single charge, with an energy consumption of around 12 kWh per 100 km. It will also be the first Mercedes EV to feature an 800V charging system, enabling rapid charging of up to 400 km in 15 minutes.
Those aren’t the only highlights that the most affordable EV from Mercedes will offer. The CLA EV is likely to come with the new MB.OS as the brain of the vehicle. Mercedes says that the AI and Machine Learning software is ready for Level 3 autonomous driving, though the car may roll out with Level 2 autonomy first.
It remains to be seen where and when Mercedes introduces the CLA EV, and specifically, whether the electric car makes its way to India or not. The auto major already has three pure electric cars on sale in India as of now, including the Mercedes EQE SUV launched at a price of Rs 1.39 crore in September last year. It would only make sense to expand this portfolio with the inclusion of the CLA EV as and when the electric car marks its debut.
