Zomato introduced a new offering called the “large order fleet” on Tuesday. It aims to streamline the handling of big orders meant for gatherings, parties, and events.
The company’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the adoption of an “all-electric fleet” for delivering large orders.
With a focus on gatherings accommodating up to 50 people, Goyal emphasized that this newly introduced fleet fills a gap in its service offerings. Goyal explained that the company formerly dealt with large orders through several delivery agents, which resulted in substandard customer experiences.
Goyal said, “These new vehicles should solve most of the problems our customers face while placing large orders on Zomato.”
However, the founder of the food-delivery giant also stated that the new feature was still in development and described it as a “work in progress.”
Additionally, he stated that the brand is actively working on including more features, such as cooling compartments and hot boxes equipped with temperature control.
It’s worth noting that this announcement comes after a recent incident where Zomato faced social media criticism for introducing a “pure veg fleet,” which caters to orders exclusively from vegetarian restaurants.
Addressing the concerns, the company promptly reversed its decision regarding distinct green uniforms and boxes within 24 hours of the initial announcement.
“While we are going to continue to have a fleet for vegetarians, we have decided to remove the on-ground segregation of this fleet on the ground using the colour green. All our riders — both our regular fleet and our fleet for vegetarians, will wear the colour red,” Goyal stated in an update post on X.
At the start of the new year in January, the company increased its mandatory platform fee for users in key markets from Rs 3 to Rs 4.
The rollout of the new fee occurred when the company experienced a remarkable increase in order volumes, especially on New Year’s Eve.
During the occasion, Zomato experienced a surge in the number of orders placed on its app, reaching an all-time high.
The company maintains a competitive edge in delivery compared to quick-service restaurant (QSR) platforms, thanks to its extensive restaurant network and variety of cuisines available.
