The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to completely exempt the registration fee for hybrid vehicles to boost their sales. This initiative could benefit manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Honda India, and Toyota Motor.
According to multiple reports, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a 100% exemption of registration fees for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). For those unaware, HEVs and PHEVs combine an internal combustion engine (ICE) with an electric motor. The key difference between them lies in the larger battery of PHEVs, which necessitates external charging.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) integrates HEV technology into the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Camry and the Innova Hycross. Similarly, Maruti Suzuki incorporates this technology in the Grand Vitara and the Invicto MPV. Additionally, Honda offers the City e:HEV car with the same technology.
In Uttar Pradesh, buyers can benefit over Rs 3 lakh on the Maruti Suzuki Invicto and Toyota Innova Hycross. Additionally, there will be more than Rs 2 lakh savings on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda City e:HEV.
Savings on Toyota Hybrids in UP
Previously, strong hybrid vehicles did not qualify for government subsidies. The buyers had to pay the complete registration fees. However, hybrid car buyers in Uttar Pradesh can now enjoy savings due to this recent initiative. Here is an outline detailing the approximate cost reductions for Toyota’s models.
Model | Old Price | New Price |
---|---|---|
Toyota Hyryder Strong Hybrid | Rs. 19.23 lakh* | Rs. 17.23 lakh* |
Toyota Innova Hybrid (Base VX) | Rs 30.13 lakh* | Rs. 27.03 lakh* |
Toyota Camry | Rs. 52.74 lakh* | Rs 48.34 lakh* |
The Toyota dealerships in Noida and Greater Noida confirm the financial benefits. Maruti Suzuki’s hybrid vehicles and the Honda City hybrid will likely experience similar price reductions.
Engine and Motor Power Outputs
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara share the same hybrid drivetrain. It consists of an electric motor producing 79bhp and 141Nm, paired with a 1.5-litre petrol engine generating 90.7bhp and 122Nm. Together, the hybrid system delivers a peak power output of 114bhp.
Moreover, the Invicto is a rebadged version of the Innova hybrid Hycross. Both vehicles feature a hybrid powertrain comprising a 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to an e-CVT. The petrol engine produces 150bhp, while the electric motor contributes 111bhp, resulting in a combined system power of 183bhp. The engine generates 188Nm of torque, while the motor delivers 206Nm.
The Honda City e:HEV utilizes a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine producing 96.6bhp and 127Nm of torque. The powertrain is supported by two electric motors that collectively generate a system output of 124bhp. Also, this sedan comes with an e-CVT transmission.
Final Thoughts
This initiative aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s broader goals to combat pollution and endorse eco-friendly mobility choices. By reducing prices, the state government aims to encourage the widespread adoption of hybrid vehicles, contributing to improved environmental conditions and air quality.
