Greaves Electric Mobility’s Ampere, renowned for its two-wheeler offerings, has unveiled its first electric scooter, the Ampere Nexus.
The company is offering the Nexus two versions: the entry-level EX (Rs 1.10 lakh) and the top-tier ST (Rs 1.20 lakh).
Potential buyers can pre-book the scooter by paying a deposit of Rs 9,999. The EV maker will start deliveries in the second half of May.
Power and Range
The Nexus features a 3kWh LFP battery and has a certified range of 136km, as stated by the company. Moreover, it offers four different ride modes: Eco, City, Power, and Limp Home.
The mid-mounted motor delivers a peak power of 4kWh. Additionally, the Power variant can achieve a top speed of 93km/h. On the contrary, the City mode restricts speed to 63 km/h, while Eco mode limits it to 42 km/h.
Charging time is around 3.5 hours, although it’s unclear whether this applies to a full 0-100% charge. The scooter automatically switches to ‘Limp Home’ mode when the battery falls below 20% SOC.
Design and Features
The Nexus retains some design cues from the NXG displayed at Auto Expo 2023. It has a striking headlight design, complemented by integrated LED DRLs.
The ST model offers a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity. On the other hand, the EX model features a 6.2-inch segmented LCD. Both models come with five riding modes and a hill-hold function. Additionally, riders can monitor various information like speed, battery level, range, time, and riding mode.
Dimensions and Safety
The seat length of the scooter is 712 mm, and its height is 765 mm. Moreover, its wheelbase stretches to 1,319 mm. Also, it gets a decent ground clearance of 170 mm and ample floorboard space of 235 mm.
A telescopic front fork and dual rear shock absorbers manage the suspension duties. Additionally, the e-scooter comes with a front disc brake and a rear drum brake, and it rides on 12-inch wheels fitted with 90/90 section tires on both ends.
Wrapping Up
When it comes to pricing, the Nexus has a competitive edge over the TVS iQube (Rs 1.35-1.45 lakh) and Bajaj Chetak (Rs 1.25-1.46 lakh). However, the starting price of the base Nexus is comparable to the entry-level Ather Rizta (Rs 1.10 lakh) and Ola S1 Air (Rs 1.05 lakh, all ex-showroom prices).
