BMW CE 02 EV Production Starts at TVS Facility

Once launched, the BMW CE 02 EV is meant to serve the need for last mile connectivity

BMW is yet to announce an official launch date for the BMW CE 02 electric scooter. Yet, we already have a slew of information about the funky two-wheeler. The vehicle has already been spotted testing many times in India. Now, it is being reported that BMW will start the production of this EV at TVS’s plant at Hosur soon. With that, we can anticipate the launch of the BMW CE 02 EV sometime in the month of November.

For those unaware, the CE 02 will be produced as a product of the partnership between BMW and TVS. This means BMW will use the TVS production plant in Hosur for its manufacturing. It will also use the engine and other parts manufactured by TVS.

The announcement for the upcoming electric two-wheeler was made during a recent event that celebrated a decade of partnership between the two automakers. It also marked the rollout of the 1,50,000th unit of the BMW G310 GS by BMW Motorrad India.

Addressing the event, KN Radhakrishnan, Director and CEO, TVS Motor Company, said “In this next stage of our partnership, we are creating opportunities to jointly design and develop common platforms. Through our collaborative efforts, we’ve achieved five extraordinary products in the 310cc series, including the recent TVS Apache RTR 310. These products are now embraced by enthusiasts in over 100 markets globally. Taking our relationship to the next level, we have started the production of our first jointly designed, developed and industrialized EV together, the BMW CE 02, at Hosur Plant today.”

Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad, added “Our strong synergies have led to the development of impressive offerings in the Sub-500cc segment. Since the launch, BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS single-cylinder models continue to enjoy unrivalled popularity and have become a key pillar of BMW Motorrad’s worldwide success.”

As for its specifications, the BMW CE 02 EV is powered by a 1+1 2kWh split battery pack that produces 15hp. This battery promises 90 km of maximum range and reaches the top speed of 95 kmph. There is a short-range single-battery variant too, which offers a 1kWh battery pack that returns an average range of 45kms, this variant can reach up to 45kmph of maximum speed. BMW will likely offer a 0.9kW normal charger or a 1.5kW fast charger with the electric scooter.

Upon launch, the BMW CE 02 is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs 6.50 lakh.
