Mahindra is set to have a rock-solid electric vehicle portfolio in India, with the likes of electric Thar, electric Scorpio, electric Bolero, and a range of electric SUVs. The automotive giant shared the details at its recently held ‘Furturescape’ event in South Africa, Cape Town, shedding light on the launch timelines of its upcoming electric cars as well as other details about them.
As per the announcements made at the event, Mahindra is gearing up to launch four new electric SUVs, namely XUV.e9, XUV.e8, BE.05, and BE.07. Along with this, the company shall also come up with electric models of its iconic IC engine cars, like the Thar, the Scorpio as well as the Bolero. To kickstart this EV push, Mahindra has even come up with a new logo for its electric SUVs and an anthem for its electric range.
The XUV.e8 will be the first among these to see the light of day, with its launch expected in December next year. The electric SUV shall mimic the XUV700 SUV that Mahindra currently sells in India. Some details shared at the event tell us that the XUV.e8 will come with a rear axle-mounted electric motor from Valeo and will produce 230 HP of power and 380 Nm of torque.
Following the XUV.e8 will be a coupe version of it by the name of XUV.e9, expected to mark its debut in April 2025. The XUV.e9 will boast a higher power than its predecessor, with the numbers expected to reach 282 HP of power and 535 Nm of torque. It will likely come in both single and dual electric motor options.
The BE.05 and its more luxurious version, the BE.07, will be launched in October 2025 and April 2026 respectively, with the same powertrain and performance numbers as seen on the XUV.e9. All these electric SUVs will sport features like a 12.3-inch of infotainment system, a heads-up display, 5G connectivity, Vehicle-to-X (V2X) capabilities, ADAS, and Harman/ Kardon speakers supporting Dolby Atmos and 3D surround sound. We can also expect fast charging speeds on the EVs.
Mahindra Introduces Vision Thar.e
Other than the Born Electric SUV lineup, Mahindra confirmed that it will be electrifying its iconic cars. To give us a glimpse of this attempt, the company introduced the Mahindra Vision Thar.e, an electrified version of Thar, as a concept for now. One look at it and we know that the design of the electric Thar aligns with the SUV’s timeless appeal and confident presence suited for any terrain.
On the exterior, Thar.e sports crisp, geometric surfaces for a robust look, while features like near-vertical windows maximize space. Inside, the Thar.e comes with elements like a central pivoting screen, robust grab handles, and an uncluttered layout, made of 50% recycled PET and uncoated recyclable plastics. With this, Mahindra aims to make the electric Thar a sustainable product.
