Now Track Your Carbon Emissions on Uber Rides With New Feature

The new "Emission Savings" feature on Uber is currently available for users in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru

Uber on Tuesday rolled out an innovative “Emission Savings” feature that lets its users track their contribution to reducing carbon emissions to the environment.

To be more precise, users, when riding in Uber Green vehicles, will be able to check how many kilograms of tailpipe carbon dioxide emissions they saved.

When users select the Uber Green option, they get an electric vehicle ride instead of the usual internal combustion engine vehicles.

It’s worth noting that Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru are the only cities in India where this groundbreaking feature is available. So, riders can use the Uber app to book all-electric vehicles within these cities.

The objective of the company is to encourage riders to make sustainable choices and raise awareness about their environmental footprint.

How Does This Feature Work?

Uber Emissions Savings feature

With the Emission Savings feature, riders can easily see the impact of their choices.

Firstly, users will have to book the Uber Green ride. After the ride is over, the users access the “Estimated CO2 saved” option within the Account section of their Uber app and check how much total emissions they prevented with the Uber Green ride.

Moreover, Uber doesn’t want to complicate things for its Uber Green riders. So, to make everything easy, the Emission Savings feature will include illustrative graphics.

This will help users understand how their emission savings contribute to environmental preservation.

When calculating emission savings for an Uber Green trip, the app will consider the estimated CO2 emissions prevented compared to a usual Uber Premier trip of equal distance.

Furthermore, Uber is taking steps to ensure that the emission savings displayed on the app are as precise as possible.

Nitish Bhushan, Head of Central Operations at Uber India, in a press statement, said, “We understand that often it is tough for people to realise exactly how much they contribute to the environment by taking a single ride in a vehicle running on sustainable energy. The scale of that impact is an important tool to have at their fingertips in order for them to make more informed decisions around sustainability in their day-to-day lives. Emission Savings is designed to do just that.”

Uber’s Sustainability Goal

Today, many companies, whether big or small, are deciding to go green to make a positive impact on the environment.

With such a goal in mind, Uber has been actively promoting sustainable transportation choices for its users.

Uber, In September 2020, announced that it wants to become a fully zero-emission platform by 2040. The company aimed for 100% of rides to take place in zero-emission vehicles, public transit, or micro-mobility choices such as bikes and scooters.
