Xiaomi is preparing to release its first electric car’s premier variant, which focuses on the track performance. As a pre-production model, the upcoming SU7 Ultra has several upgrades over the standard SU7. The goal is to achieve a fast lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The Chinese automaker announced that the prototype will debut on the racetrack this October. However, the production model will likely make an appearance on the renowned circuit in 2025.
Design Updates on the Ultra Prototype
The Ultra Prototype has an extensive aerodynamic redesign than the standard SU7. At the front, the new bumper has a notable splitter, revamped air vents, and redesigned front fenders.
The bonnet has twin exhaust vents to release trapped air. Also, the design is complemented by a striking side skirt, a sizable rear wing, and an expansive rear diffuser. Xiaomi claims the aerodynamic modifications serve a purpose, with SU7 achieving 2145 kg of downforce due to these upgrades.
In order to cut down on weight, the automaker used carbon fibre components on the SU7 Ultra’s body panels. According to the company, the SU7 Ultra prototype weighs 1,900 kg, cutting over 300 kg compared to the standard SU7 Max.
Powertrain Details of the Prototype
The SU7 Ultra Prototype features three electric motors created in-house by the Chinese automaker. The two electric motors, labelled as the V8s series by Xiaomi, produce 570bhp and 635 Nm torque. Meanwhile, the third, known as the V6s, delivers 387 bhp.
While previous SU7 models used V6 series units, the prototype is the first model to feature the new V8s series electric motors. With a total output of 1,527 hp, the model surpassed vehicles like the Tesla Model S Plaid (1020 hp), Porsche Taycan Turbo GT(1020 hp), Lucid Air Sapphire (1217 hp), and the Nio EP9 (1360 hp).
Xiaomi claims that the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 1.97 seconds and hit 200 km/h in just 5.96 seconds. Furthermore, the SU7 Ultra’s top speed exceeds 350 km/h and reportedly goes from 0-300 km/h in 15.07 seconds.
The SU7 Ultra uses brake calipers of AP Racing, a UK-based company known for high-performance braking systems. These callipers are combined with racing discs designed to endure temperatures over 800 degrees Celsius.
Wrapping Up
The SU7 is available in three versions: Standard, Pro, and Max, with Max being the most powerful variant. Recently, as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations, the automaker presented the Max model in India. With a starting price of around Rs 25 lakh, the electric sedan is unlikely to be sold in India’s EV market soon.
