Ather Energy, an Indian electric vehicle (EV) start-up, plans to build its third manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, met with Swapnil Jain, co-founder of Ather Energy, to discuss and finalize the location for the new plant in Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC).
Infrastructure Investment Details
The new manufacturing plant will have the capability to produce up to one million two-wheelers and batteries every year.
The Deputy CM mentioned that the new plant will cost more than Rs 2,000 crore to build. However, it will create approximately 4,000 new jobs.
Ather Energy stated that the new plant’s location will reduce transportation expenses and speed up the delivery of finished products to customers throughout India.
The new facility will increase Ather’s total production capacity by more than three times, from 4.20 lakh units per year.
Reasons Behind Maharashtra Investment
Ather started operating its second plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, in 2022, with a total capacity of 3 lakh two-wheelers annually. Meanwhile, the company’s first facility can produce 1.20 lakh two-wheelers every year.
Swapnil Jain posted on social media to announce the news, expressing excitement about investing in Maharashtra.
Ather is expanding its range of products due to growing consumer demand, leading it to choose Maharashtra for a new production site.
Also, Jain mentioned that Maharashtra’s government policies support electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and growth.
Currently, Ather Energy sells two main products: the sporting 450 series, including models 450S and 450X, and the newly introduced Rizta.
The company operates more than 200 experience centers and has 1,900 fast chargers installed across India.
Wrapping Up
Official registration data shows that Ather sold nearly 51,000 scooters in the first six months of this year.
This places Ather Energy as the fourth highest-selling electric two-wheeler brand in India. It lags behind Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company, and the leading brand, Ola Electric.
