Ford Teases Capri Electric SUV via Ad Campaign: To be Unveiled on July 10

Like the Explorer, the Capri will use VW's MEB architecture with Ford adding its own modifications to it

Ford has revealed the first sneak peek of its upcoming electric coupé-SUV. According to several sources, Ford will reintroduce the Capri name.
However, the American automaker has not officially confirmed that they will use the name from the 1960s coupé. But there are clues suggesting they might.

In its original marketing campaign, Ford dropped hints about its upcoming model, scheduled for unveiling on July 10th. Social media is often the primary platform for teaser campaigns. And for Ford, an unusual advertisement with a retro style and many references to the past appeared in specialized publications. The text reads:

We bring back icons to their legendary status, rewired for a new era. With 55 years of knowledge, our team has restored 1,986 classic coupes. We promise to return your car fast, back from its original glory EV-ERY time.

About the new Ford Capri?

Ford will launch its latest electric car in July 2024, following the prolonged delay of the Explorer. Capri will be part of Ford’s effort to electrify its European line-up with several new EVs. After its release, Ford intends to launch a Puma EV by late 2024, followed by a new electric car replacing the Focus in 2025.

Moreover, there were spy shots of Capri under camouflage during testing. The photos indicate it departs from the low-slung coupe design of the original three generations sold from 1969 to 1986.

Instead, it adopts the appearance of a lifted crossover with a sloping roofline, similar to the shape and size of a Polestar 2. Also, the Capri will compete with cars like the Kia EV3, BYD Seal, and Hyundai Ioniq 6.

Range and Powertrain?

Ford’s partnership with Volkswagen will prove beneficial once more for the Capri. Like the Explorer, the upcoming EV will likely utilize VW’s MEB architecture. However, Ford will add its own modifications to it.

Also, it might adopt the updated MEB+ variant, which provides a range of up to 700km. Moreover, it would offer options for single-motor or dual-motor all-wheel drive, along with charging speeds up to 200kW.

Wrapping Up

Ford plans to officially debut the new Capri on July 10, 2024, with sales expected to start later in the same year.
