Mahindra to Expand its Electric SUV Lineup with Scorpio.e and Bolero.e

Mahindra with 60kWh/80kWh battery pack offer 325km range, and between 435-450km range, respectively

Mahindra, a leading Indian car company, announced it will make electric versions of the Bolero and Scorpio. The new electric SUVs will be called Scorpio.e and Bolero.e. This is part of Mahindra’s plan to release seven new electric vehicles in India by 2030.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Mahindra Executive Director and CEO made this announcement during an investor presentation. Also, Jejurikar said that all traditional car models would become electric, showing Mahindra’s dedication to electric cars.

The new electric models will have names like XUV.e and Thar.e, following the same pattern as their petrol versions, with the addition of ‘.e’ at the end.

However, we don’t know much about the Scorpio.e and Bolero.e yet. Some people think these EVs won’t have a ladder-frame chassis because it’s difficult to make a fully electric car using that type of platform.

Electric SUVs to Share Platform

Last year, Mahindra showed the Thar.e concept car. It was made on a modified version of their INGLO skateboard platform called P1. They’re likely going to use this platform for the electric Scorpio and Bolero.

The P1 platform has a wheelbase ranging from 2,775mm to 2,975mm, which is longer than the current Bolero’s 2,680mm and Scorpio N’s 2,750mm. The Scorpio.e and Bolero.e will probably use the same battery packs and motors as Mahindra’s other electric vehicles.

The Thar.e concept had two motors: one at the front with 109hp and 135 Nm torque and one at the rear with 286hp and 535 Nm torque. This setup allowed it to have all-wheel drive capability.

Mahindra said the platform could fit a 60kWh or an 80kWh battery pack. The 60kWh pack is estimated to give around 325km of range, and the 80kWh pack could offer between 435-450km of range.
