Mercedes-Benz today has introduced yet another top-end luxury vehicle in India with its first-ever all-electric Mercedes-Maybach in the country. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV, meant to usher in a new era of Maybach in India, is an all-electric, top-end luxury SUV in-line with Karl Maybach’s maxim – ‘What is good, must also be beautiful.’ As per the company, this is “the most luxurious and comfortable all-electric SUV” and is meant to be a benchmark in the top-end all-electric luxury SUV segment.

Highlights of the new Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV
Design – The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV features the iconic Mercedes star prominently on the hood, with a brand-typical black panel adorned with vertical chrome accents and a smooth, integrated radar sensor panel. Chrome-plated filigree slats accentuate the bumper’s air intake, while the classic MAYBACH lettering is subtly integrated into a chrome strip aligned with the continuous DIGITAL LIGHT headlights. The Maybach pattern appears in trim parts of the side bumper and on the doors for a unique welcome.
Side features include bold chrome surrounds on the windows and B-pillar, emphasizing the vehicle’s length and quality, with a Maybach emblem on the D-pillar and subtly integrated EQS lettering. High-gloss black cladding, exclusive 21 or 22-inch alloy wheels, and illuminated running boards with anodized aluminium treads complement the pronounced wheel arches. At the rear, continuous light strip rear lights and chrome accents on the tailgate, rear apron, and spoiler lip highlight the SUV’s exclusivity. The model offers a two-tone paintwork in five combinations, applied by hand to the highest standards.
Interiors – The interior of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV seamlessly blends tradition with avant-garde elements. It features the MBUX Hyperscreen with a “zero layer” interface and bespoke Maybach animations, all presented in an elegant deep blue. Highlights include an animated instrument cluster in “MAYBACH” mode, with rose gold surrounds and a silk scarf-like movement of the pointers. The central display offers intuitive interaction, with options to customize display styles and modes.
Rear passengers enjoy extensive comfort with two 11.6-inch displays and MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment, including a rear tablet for remote control and MBUX Interior Assist for gesture-based functions. The cabin features Maybach Exclusive Nappa leather in rich hues and optional MANUFAKTUR leather for added luxury. Natural wood trims and high-quality design elements, including the Maybach emblem on various surfaces, underscore the vehicle’s refined aesthetic.
Resource-Saving Luxury – The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV debuts Mercedes-Benz’s first use of vegetable-tanned Nappa leather,
utilizing coffee bean shells as tanning agents and plant-based fat liquoring agents. This process eliminates the need for salt, saving approximately 45 kilograms per vehicle, and repurposes tanning by-products into compostable products and insulating materials. The leather is produced with stringent sustainability criteria, including a transparent supply chain and chrome-free agents.
Furthering its commitment to sustainability, the Maybach EQS SUV incorporates resource-saving materials like secondary steel and recycled aluminum and features net carbon-neutral production for both the vehicle and its battery. Mercedes-Benz aims to cut CO2 emissions by 50% per passenger car by 2030, with a goal of net carbon neutrality for its new fleet by 2039.
Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV – Features
Another exclusive features are the standard automatic comfort doors at the front and rear. The recessed
door handles extend, if the driver approaches the vehicle from the side from a distance as far as approximately 20 feet. The driver door opens automatically when approaching the vehicle from a distance as far as approximately 5 feet. This exceptional welcome function can be activated and deactivated in the MBUX central display. All other doors can be opened and closed remotely via MBUX – with a simple press of the vehicle key, in the central display or the standard MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment.
The driver door also closes automatically upon a press of the brake pedal. In each door, there is an electric servomotor on the catch strap. On the command of the control unit, the doors swing open and close in a controlled manner. To prevent damage, the system uses the ultrasonic sensors of the parking assistance systems. They are located in the bumpers and monitor the surroundings when parking. As soon as they detect an obstacle, the gather additional information from the cameras in the exterior mirrors. When opening the doors, the system considers any detected obstacles. Proximity sensors in the doors are also active when the vehicle is stationary. They scan the surroundings while opening.
The rear of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV offers a luxurious, all-encompassing comfort experience, known as the cocooning effect. The standard Executive seats feature ventilation, massage functions, and neck and shoulder heating, along with a calf massage and Chauffeur Package. When the right rear passenger reclines, the front passenger seat automatically moves to the chauffeur position, and ENERGIZING COMFORT enhances the massage experience.
The redesigned floating rear centre console integrates wooden trim and features a projector that discreetly displays the Maybach emblem on the floor. The First-Class Rear package includes thermal cup holders, a shelf for the MBUX rear tablet, and ample connectivity with four USB-C ports and two HDMI interfaces. Optional additions include folding tables, a cooling compartment, and silver-plated champagne goblets.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV features adaptive rear lighting with designer lamps in each C-pillar, adjustable reading lights in the grab handles, and customizable light strips in the headlining. Adjustable brightness and light spot positions can create everything from focused work lighting to a relaxing lounge ambience. Ambient Lighting extends throughout the vehicle, including the roof liner and behind the rear seats, with Active Ambient Lighting offering 253 controllable LEDs and 64 color options, including exclusive Maybach hues like Rose Gold White and Amethyst Glow. The “Welcome” presentation features a light carpet that highlights the rear doors, enhancing the cocooning effect.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV features ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL Plus with a HEPA filter, ensuring superior air quality by trapping fine dust, particles, and pollen. The activated carbon in both the HEPA and cabin filters also eliminates sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and odours. The air quality sensor and circulating air filter maintain a clean cabin environment, with particulate matter levels displayed in the MBUX system. Pre-air conditioning cleans the interior before boarding, and the system offers recommendations based on outside air quality. The standard AIR BALANCE Package includes a unique No. 12 MOOD Ebony fragrance, blending sandalwood and spices for an exclusive sensory experience.
Immersive Sound Experience – The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV delivers a superior audio experience with the standard Burmester 4D
surround sound system and Dolby Atmos technology. Featuring 15 speakers, including bass speakers, 3D speakers, and seat exciters, it offers unparalleled clarity and depth, replicating the artist’s original studio sound. The system supports individual sound adjustment per MBUX profile and provides a four-dimensional listening experience. The “Aerial Grace” driving sound, unique to this electric model, adapts in real-time to driving parameters for an interactive acoustic experience.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV also excels in noise and vibration control, featuring comprehensive NVH measures, including encapsulated drive trains, innovative support frames, and double decoupling of drive units. Enhanced acoustic foams and underbody
ramps minimize road noise.
In the rear, the SUV boasts superior noise suppression with a leather-covered luggage compartment cover and additional insulation materials. The Disconnect Unit (DCU) optimizes range by decoupling the front axle motor during low loads. Acoustically effective laminated glass, advanced wind deflection, and electrically operated rear roller blinds ensure an exceptionally quiet rear cabin, ideal for enjoying music or relaxing in silence.
Advanced Suspension – The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV features AIRMATIC air suspension with continuously adaptive damping (ADS+) as standard, allowing a ground clearance increase of up to 25 millimetres. It includes rear-axle steering with up to 4.5 degrees of movement and an optional 10-degree turn, reducing the turning circle to 11.0 meters.
In addition to the standard driving modes—ECO, SPORT, OFFROAD, and INDIVIDUAL—the SUV offers the exclusive MAYBACH driving programme, prioritizing rear passenger comfort by minimizing body movements and oscillations. This mode is the standard setting, enhancing overall ride quality.
Active scenting – The active scenting also appeals to the sense of smell. It is part of the standard AIR BALANCE Package.
