Scheduled for release in 2025, Mercedes-AMG aims to introduce its first electric performance car, the AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV. The upcoming electric Mercedes-AMG GT S E Performance variant will be the most powerful AMG, with an output of around 1,000hp.
Designed as a performance car from scratch, this new model will offer the ultimate driving experience. This EV will be the first model built on the newly developed AMG.EA electric car platform by Mercedes’s performance division.
Notably, the design and engineering of the upcoming high-performance EV have been geared towards enabling sleek and low-slung profiles that are similar to the current AMG combustion sports cars. Also, the upcoming model will prioritize dynamic performance and engagement as much as straight-line speed. It marks a significant shift in Mercedes-AMG’s approach to design.
Performance: AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV
Mercedes will incorporate cutting-edge electric motor technology from the British firm Yasa, acquired by Mercedes in 2021. This will be the highlight of the AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV.
Moreover, manufactured at Mercedes’ facility in Berlin, these disc-shaped axial-flux motor units offer more power and torque density when compared to traditional radial-flux motors.
If deployed as a twin-motor setup, these axial units can drive the power output closer to the 1,000hp/1,300Nm mark.
Also, the technological advancement will result in lighter weight, less space consumption, and improved efficiency. However, it will also contribute to enhanced overall performance and range optimization of the 4-door Coupe EV.
Design: AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV
The upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV may take design inspiration from the motorsport-centric Vision 2025 concept, unveiled at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Furthermore, the electric saloon will feature an illuminated grille, revamped headlamps and a newly designed star etched on the bonnet.
A retractable spoiler, flush door handles, and a split rear window enhance the aesthetics of the high-performance electric saloon.
If we talk about the cabin design, we have a full-width high-definition screen, which is similar to the other Mercedes-Benz models.
Competition: AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV
When launched next year, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV will enter the competitive segment. It will rival renowned and top-selling EV sports saloons such as the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT.
The 4-door Coupe EV, with its unique design attributes and expected power output of over 1,000hp, will surely make a significant impact in the performance electric car market.
Moreover, the performance of this model will be a significant indicator of the success of Mercedes’ AMG.EA platform.
