Mercedes-Benz India, today launched the luxury EQE 500 4MATIC SUV, a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) from its global portfolio, to extend its electric vehicle offerings in the country. The new EQE 500 in its SUV avatar comes as the most spacious representative of its class and aims to redefine the luxury Sports Utility Vehicle experience. For this, it boasts highlights like a sporty design, generous interior space, and a long-range driving capability. The stand-out feature, however, is its WLTP range of up to 550kms on a single charge.
Other than this, the EQE 500 4MATIC SUV also promises an impressive electric powertrain. Coupled with both the front and rear axle, two newly developed permanently excited synchronous motors are able to produce 300 kW of power and 858 Nm of torque, accelerating the EQE 500 4MATIC SUV from a standstill to 100kmph in just 4.9 seconds. These motors are powered by a lithium-ion battery with a high energy density, delivering a usable energy content of 90.56 kWh. This battery is also responsible for the promised WLTP range of 550kms on the EQE 500 4MATIC SUV.
As for its looks, the Mercedes-Benz EQE 500 4MATIC SUV sports a tautly stretched silhouette, muscular shoulder area and the characteristic black panel radiator grille for a confident appearance on the road. Its length, width, and height dimensions spread across 4863, 1940, and 1685 mm respectively. With a wheelbase of 3030 mm, the electric SUV also boasts a generous boot capacity of 1675 litres.
On the inside, the vehicle comes equipped with an MBUX Hyperscreen, including 3 displays that seamlessly blend beneath a glass panel, creating one large Hyperscreen. Bright OLED displays with haptic feedback and the zero-layer interface also add to a comfortable user experience.
Other notable features of the Mercedes-Benz EQE 500 4MATIC SUV include Torque Shift for continuously variable distribution of drive torque between the rear and front electric motors, AIRMATIC Suspension which can raise the car by 25 mm, regenerative braking, and an extensive range of driving assistance systems including Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Parking Package with a 360-degree camera. There is even a safety concept that automatically switches off the car’s high-voltage system in a crash or when an impact is detected during charging.
Mercedes-Benz says that the EQE SUV components weighing more than 70 kg are made partly from resource-saving materials (recyclates and renewable raw materials). These include grab handles with plastics from chemical recycling. In their production, fossil-based raw materials were replaced by biomethane and pyrolysis oil from recycled used tyres. The used tyres come from Mercedes-Benz vehicles, among others. In this way, Mercedes-Benz is also closing the material cycle of the used tyres. The recycling of secondary materials also reduces the use of fossil-based resources as the CO2 footprint of plastic. The innovative recycled plastic has the same properties as virgin plastic made from fossil-based raw materials.
“We are strengthening our BEV portfolio by launching the EQE 500 4MATIC SUV with the highest equipment level for the Indian customers, giving them a desirable EV in the segment. The EQE 500 SUV is an important addition to our BEV portfolio offering segment-leading luxury appointments, technology, connectivity, and comfort features for discerning customers,” said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, during the EV’s launch.
