Mahindra, one of India’s biggest automakers, has recently applied for numerous trademarks for the names of its upcoming vehicles. It is speculated that the company wants to use the name for its upcoming electric SUVs.
The four new names trademarked are – XUV 7XO, XUV 5XO, XUV 3XO and XUV 1XO. It refers to the electric variants of the XUV700, XUV500, XUV300, and a brand-new compact SUV EV. Mahindra plans to launch the first of these upcoming EVs by the end of this year.
Moreover, the plan of the company is to develop all of these vehicles on the existing INGLO platform.
The battery packs for larger SUVs will have capacities ranging from 60 to 80 kWh. While the XUV 7XO and 5XO may offer both options of single-motor and dual-motor AWD variants, the XUV 3XO and 1XO will probably stick to a single electric motor setup.
The expected range for the XUV 7XO, 5XO, and XUV 3XO is around 400 and 450 km. On the other hand, the XUV 1XO may offer a range of 200 to 250 km.
Nomenclature of the New Mahindra EVs
Mahindra, when it comes to names like Scorpio, Bolero, and XUV700 (pronounced as Seven-double- O), would like to follow the trend of ending the names with the letter ‘O’ for the XUV 7XO, XUV 5XO, XUV 3XO, and XUV 1XO.
The company could possibly use the names of the production versions of EV variants of current petrol and diesel Mahindra SUVs or for the upcoming lineup of electric SUVs scheduled to be released under the XUV.e and BE family.
The electric variant of the XUV700, built on the born-EV INGLO platform, has been named the XUV.e8 (with the name trademarked last year). However, recent trademark filings indicate that Mahindra might opt for a modified naming scheme for its forthcoming electric SUVs.
The current status of the trademarks is ‘Accepted & Advertised,’ indicating that they have been published for public scrutiny. Moreover, in the event of opposition, the company will have the option to file a plea.
However, this also implies that the trademarks are in the process of registration.
Upcoming Mahindra EV Models
At present, the Mahindra XUV400 is the only EV in the company’s lineup. However, this will likely change by December 2024 with the launch of the first of Mahindra’s new EVs, which is likely to be XUV.e8.
Although there is no official confirmation from Mahindra, the company might rename both the XUV400 and the upcoming XUV300 EV.
Additionally, Mahindra unveiled a lineup of future products, including BE.05, BE.07, and BE.RALL-E.
