Tata Altroz has been launched in an all-new avatar by Tata Motors as the latest vehicle to add to its list of CNG car offerings in India. The new CNG version of the Altroz is called Tata Altroz iCNG and has been launched at a starting price of Rs 7.55 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Interestingly, the Altroz iCNG comes as the first-ever CNG-run hatchback in India that features a sunroof. Other than this, the Altroz iCNG is also the first-ever vehicle that comes with a new dual-cylinder set-up made by Tata Motors for the CNG tanks in its cars.
This new positioning system places two large tanks of CNG under the luggage area at the back, allowing for much more boot space than what is seen with other CNG cars. Another feature worth a mention on the Tata Altroz iCNG is its ability to start directly in the CNG mode, a big update over other CNG cars that have to be started in petrol first, before switching on to the CNG mode. The Altroz iCNG even comes with the capability to switch between fuels automatically when any of the two is low.
As for the car itself, the new Altroz iCNG is just about similar to the regular version of the Altroz barring a few changes. Here is a look at its design, features, performance figures, and the prices of its various models in detail.
Tata Altroz iCNG Design
The only visual difference between the regular Altroz and the Altroz iCNG is the addition of an iCNG badge on the latter at its tailgate. Other than this, the new Altroz iCNG features the same design as the regular Altroz, which made waves in the Indian market upon launch. So Tata Motors seems to be sticking to the ‘tried and tested’ design here that brought in superhit results for their hatchback earlier.
Tata Altroz iCNG Features
The Altroz iCNG also carries some of the best-known features of its petrol brethren and even adds on to these. For instance, the Altroz iCNG comes with a wireless charger, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and an air purifier at the front. The highlight, however, is the voice-activated sunroof on some of its variants. The car also features leatherette seats, automatic headlamps, and rear-seat AC vents.
Tata Altroz iCNG Performance
The Altroz iCNG promises some impressive performance numbers, thanks to its 1.2L Revotron Engine that produces 88hp of power and 115Nm of torque in petrol mode. What’s more impressive is the 77hp power and 103Nm of torque produced when the car is in CNG mode. This is more than just about every other CNG hatchback we see in India. The car features a 5-speed manual transmission. For safety, Altroz iCNG comes with some features like dual front airbags, advanced ABS with EBD, and even reverse parking sensors.
