MG Cloud EV First Teaser Released in India; Price and Features to Reveal Soon

MG teased its upcoming Cloud EV for the first time, which will feature panoramic sunroof and flat-bottom steering wheel

Last week, we told you that JSW MG Motor is preparing to introduce its third electric vehicle in India later this year. And today, the British-origin automaker released the first teaser of its upcoming electric crossover – the Cloud EV.

MG will likely reveal the pricing and specifications of the Cloud EV during its release this festive season, around September or October. However, the car has been spied a few times on the Indian roads, and we got a glimpse of it from today’s teaser.

What do we get to know from the teaser?

Since it was the first teaser, MG didn’t reveal much about the Cloud EV. But as seen in the video, the model will get sleek LED DRLs, an LED light bar on the front, and an illuminated MG logo at the rear. Moreover, expect the upcoming MG EV to feature a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting.

Also, the teaser showed aerodynamically-designed alloy wheels. They resemble those on the international model but feature the MG logo at the center. Finally, the trailer showed a two-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel.

MG will likely release more teasers and offer glimpses of the Cloud EV before officially announcing its launching date.

Expected Battery Choice in India

The MG Cloud EV is available in two different battery choices in the international market. One is a 37.9kWh battery that can travel 360km on a full charge, and the other is a 50.6kWh battery that can go 460km.

Regardless of the battery size, the EV uses a front-axle-mounted electric motor that produces 132bhp. MG will probably introduce the 50.6kWh battery option with its electric motor in India.

Design and Features

SAIC will sell the Cloud EV under the MG brand name in India, similar to the Comet EV. The Cloud is about 4,300mm long, making it slightly smaller than the Kia Carens and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The wheelbase of the EV measures 2,700mm.

Some of the features have been confirmed from the first teaser, but cloud EV will also likely feature:

  • Closed-off grille
  • Wide air dam
  • Projector headlamps
  • Flush door handles
  • Wrap-around glasshouse
  • Integrated spoiler.

What about the Price of MG Cloud EV?

The Cloud EV will be MG’s third electric vehicle in India, joining the ZS EV and Comet EV. Reports suggest that MG India plans to price the Cloud EV under Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).

For this, the model is expected to have a high level of localization, including its battery pack. When launched, the Cloud EV will compete with cars like the Tata Nexon EV, BYD e6, Mahindra XUV400, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX.
