Mini has introduced the new Countryman Electric, alongside Cooper S, in India with a starting price of Rs 54.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
Globally, the new Countryman comes in both ICE and EV variants. However, India currently gets the electric model. Notably, the Countryman Electric shares the same platform as the BMW iX1.
The design of the new Mini Countryman represents an evolution from earlier models. However, it is notably more elegant and minimalistic, resembling the new Cooper S.
Powertrain, Range and Battery
The Countryman Electric features a 66.4kWh battery pack, offering a single motor and front-wheel drive. EV SUV generates 204bhp and 250Nm of torque, accelerating 0-100kph in 8.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 170kph.
While a 313hp dual-motor all-wheel-drive model is available globally, it remains reserved for the BMW iX1 to ensure product distinction.
The electric car has a claimed range of 462km (WLTP cycle) on a full charge, showcasing its impressive range potential. It supports rapid charging at speeds up to 130kW, juicing the battery from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.
Interior and Features
Inside, the design looks similar to the minimalism of the new Cooper S, featuring a dashboard centred around a 9.4-inch touchscreen. Surrounding the screen are four sleek vertical AC vents, replacing the traditional instrument cluster.
Mini has streamlined the centre console, featuring a row of toggle switches for vehicle functions. Most vehicle settings, including HVAC controls, are accessible via the touchscreen interface.
The SUV’s increased size allows for a larger centre console, which now includes bigger cupholders and an additional 130mm of legroom in the rear. Similar to the Cooper S, Countryman’s interior features textured surfaces throughout, enhancing its overall appearance. Additional notable features include:
- Electrically adjustable front seats
- Ambient lighting
- A panoramic sunroof
- Wireless charging
- Advanced traction control
The Countryman stands out by being the first Mini model to feature Level 2 ADAS, enabling semi-autonomous driving at speeds of up to 60kph.
