In a recent investor call, TVS CEO KN Radhakrishnan announced a stunning rise in electric two-wheeler sales, which reached 48,000 units in the fourth quarter, up from 29,000 units in the previous quarter. Radhakrishnan added to the enthusiasm by announcing the impending debut of a new electric two-wheeler in the coming quarter, emphasizing the company’s commitment to addressing customer demands. While specifics regarding the new electric model are unknown, some speculate that it may be the long-awaited TVS iQube ST variation.
The iQube ST, which has been delayed owing to changes in the Indian EV sector and a lower FAME subsidy, is expected to appear in 2024, as revealed during last year’s TVS MotoSoul festival.
The iQube ST has a 4.56kWh battery that provides a stated 145km IDC range. Charging is fast, taking 4 hours and 6 minutes to reach 80 per cent with the 950W charger. Notably, the ST variant offers quick charging at 1.5kW, distinguishing it from previous iQube variants. The hub-mounted motor, like the base iQube and iQube S, leads to a slightly higher peak speed of 82kmph, compared to the base model’s 78kmph.
The spike in sales of electric two-wheelers demonstrates India’s rising embrace of environmentally friendly mobility alternatives. TVS, in response to market realities, intends to meet increasing customer requirements with the impending launch, therefore expanding its electric car line.
