BMW Motorrad will expand its electric vehicle lineup in India by introducing the CE 02 by year end, as per multiple media reports. The upcoming e-scooter will be the first electric vehicle from the TVS-BMW collaboration. Moreover, the Indian two-wheeler company will assemble the scooter and co-develop the platform alongside BMW at their Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu.
It’s worth noting that before releasing the affordable CE 02, BMW opted to introduce its expensive sibling, the CE 04, in India. The CE 04 launched in India last week as the costliest electric scooter in the country. However, it has been available for sale in international markets for the past few years with similar features.
Compared to the CE 04, CE 02 will be significantly cheaper. But it will still not be a budget-friendly electric scooter. For instance, it will surely be priced higher than the 310cc models in every global market where it’s offered, despite the 310s being produced in the TVS facility.
The design draws inspiration from monkey bikes, giving CE 02 a distinctive look. Similar to the CE 04, this scooter has all the latest features and design elements, making it highly desirable.
What about the Powertrain of BMW CE 02?
The CE 02 runs on a 2kWh battery, with an option between a single or dual battery configuration 4kW or 11kW. This allows the scooter to deliver either 90 km of range and a top speed of 95 km/h or 45 km of range and a top speed of 45 km/h, depending on the chosen setup.
Interestingly, this is lower than the range offered by prominent electric scooters available in India, like the Ola S1 and Ather 450.
Expected Launch and Price of BMW CE 02?
The German automaker will aim to introduce the CE 02 in India towards the end of the year. In terms of pricing, BMW will likely set a higher price point than the TVS X electric scooter, which costs Rs 2.49 lakh, ex-showroom.
Expect the German automaker to set the price between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, making it pricier than the TVS X. However, BMW’s brand reputation in India is so powerful that such products tend to sell quickly.
