The high-performing BMW i5 M60 xDrive has finally made its debut in India, with a price tag of Rs. 1.19 crore (ex-showroom). The i5, revealed globally early last year, is the electric version of the new-gen 5 Series.
Moreover, the electric sedan joins BMW India’s EV lineup, which includes the i4 and i7 sedans, plus the iX1 and iX SUVs.
The Electric Powertrain
The i5 M60 is an all-wheel drive, with electric motors on both axles powering its drivetrain.
BMW claims that the electric sedan, with a combined output of 601 hp and 795 Nm, can reach 0-100 kmph in 3.8 seconds. Also, an 81.2 kWh high-density battery powers the EV, delivering a claimed range of up to 516 km.
The automaker confirms that each i5 M60 unit will include a complimentary 11 kW wall box charger. However, buyers have an option of a more powerful 22 kW unit.
The Stylish Design
Reflecting BMW’s signature, the sedan’s illuminated kidney grille is its standout and most captivating feature. Nevertheless, it’s without the air ducts. Unfortunately, that’s the current design approach for BMW grilles.
Moreover, each side of the grille features Adaptive LED lights. The setup includes two boomerang-shaped vertical LED DRLs and primary headlamps.
The standout design feature of the e-sedan is the 20-inch M light alloy wheels with a sharp geometrical design.
At the rear, you’ll find the BMW logo with the i5 and M60 badges on each side. In addition, the rear lights display brand’s traditional L design, modernized with a sleeker and more stylish appearance.
Interior and Features
Firstly, the cabin features a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch curved glass infotainment panel, reflecting the modern aesthetic.
Moreover, the infotainment system seamlessly integrates Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with BMW Operating System 8.5.
If we talk about the features, the i5 M60 packs:
- Automatic climate control system
- Active seat ventilation (front seats)
- Panoramic sunroof
- 655-watt 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system
- Adaptive LED headlights
Additionally, buyers can choose to equip tech features like adaptive M suspension, comfort front seats, and smartphone-controlled parking.
Safety Features
Safety is a priority for the German automaker, with buyers receiving several standard features such as:
- Six airbags
- Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), including Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and an electric parking brake.
- Driver Assistance systems with functionalities like Cruise Control, Attentiveness Assistant, Reversing Assistant, and Parking Assistant Professional.
- Driving Assistant Professional, featuring Distance Control and Steering and Lane Control Assistant.
Competition
Lastly, the i5 will face direct competition from Audi Q8 e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace in the Indian EV market. Moreover, it shares a similar price tag with its sibling EV, the iX, priced at ₹1.21 (Ex-showroom price)
