Hyundai Motor India and Charge Zone have inked a memorandum of understanding today. As per the agreement, Charge Zone will set up 60kW DC fast chargers at 100 Hyundai dealerships.
The Korean automaker only sells one electric vehicle in India – the Ioniq 5 SUV. Recently, the company discontinued the production of the Kona Electric. However, Hyundai Motor India intends to launch the Creta EV by the end of 2024.
In this partnership, both parties aim to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) charging network in India. The company will install these charging stations at dealership sites across cities and highways. Furthermore, it will offer convenience to electric car owners for both intra-city and inter-city travel.
Jae Wan Ryu of Hyundai stated:
“Strengthening EV charging infrastructure is crucial for promoting electric mobility and addressing range anxiety. Also, our partnership with ChargeZone will enhance our EV charging network, benefiting all EV users and supporting India’s carbon neutrality goals.”
Currently, Hyundai operates 19 dealerships that feature 60kW DC public EV charging stations. In collaboration with Charge Zone, the automaker plans to increase this number by installing 100 charging stations at its dealerships.
As part of its EV strategy, Hyundai has committed investments towards expanding the charging infrastructure nationwide, featuring 180kW DC and 60kW DC chargers. Moreover, Hyundai manages 15 fast charging stations positioned across major cities and highways in nine states across India.
Kartikey Hariyani of ChargeZone, said:
“Our collaboration with Hyundai aims to improve infrastructure for 4-Wheeler Electric Vehicles (BEVs). Additionally, it ensures reliable and seamless access to charging stations.”
Hyundai has introduced a dedicated charging management system (CMS) platform called EV Charge, accessible through the myHyundai mobile app. Also, this platform enables seamless EV charging for customers across different companies.
The CMS allows EV owners to locate charging stations from various certified charger providers, book charging slots, and make digital payments. The myHyundai app’s “EV Charge” section features Hyundai’s, Charge Zone’s and other third-party operators charging network.
