Tata currently offers the most variety of affordable electric vehicles (EVs), from small hatchbacks to large SUVs. Specifically in the SUV category, they have two options available: the Punch EV and the Nexon EV.
SUVs are becoming popular in India, and there’s a growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs). The Punch EV and Nexon EV have been highly sought after since their introduction. The Punch EV has 10,000 units sold within five months of its launch. The Nexon EV, debuting in 2020, has sold over 68,000 units so far, as per media release.
Features and Safety
The Nexon EV includes:

Recently, both the Nexon EV and Punch EV received 5-star ratings in crash tests conducted by Bharat NCAP.
Both SUVs come with six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, all-wheel disc brakes, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold. They also feature a blind spot view monitor, hill hold control, and hill descent control. The Nexon EV additionally has front parking sensors.
Powertrain and Battery
The Tata Punch EV offers two types of powertrains: Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR). The MR version has a 25kWh battery that provides a range of 315km. Meanwhile, the LR version, with a 35kWh battery, offers a range of 421km on a full charge.
The MR variant produces 81bhp, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 13.5 seconds. The LR variants with 120bhp, achieve the same acceleration in 9.5 seconds.
The Tata Nexon EV also offers two powertrain options: Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR). The MR variant equipped with a 30kWh battery offers a range of 325km range and generates 127bhp. The LR variant has a 40.5kWh battery, providing a 465km range and offers 142bhp.
Both SUVs offer multiple driving modes: Eco, City, and Sport. They also feature four levels of regenerative braking modes.
Price and Competitors
Priced between Rs 10.99 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tata Punch EV competes with the Citroen eC3 and offers a more premium option compared to the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV.
The Tata Nexon EV comes with a price tag of Rs 14.49 lakh to Rs 19.49 lakh. It directly competes with the Mahindra XUV400 EV and is an affordable alternative to the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
