Kia Corporation has unveiled the first teaser images of its upcoming EV3 electric SUV. The Korean automaker will officially unveil its new compact electric SUV on May 23. Last year, Kia revealed the EV3 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Positioned below the flagship EV9 in Kia’s electric SUV lineup, the EV3 shows bold, geometric design elements in the teasers, emphasizing its dynamic aesthetics.
Notable features include boxy rear fenders and a tailgate. Moreover, the distinctive Star Map lighting gives the vehicle a futuristic look. Also, the Korean automaker is following ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, ensuring consistency across its model range.
As per the company, “the EV3 is a compact yet completely equipped EV SUV that delivers superior performance and has innovative technologies.”
However, there is currently no information available regarding its launch in the Indian market.
Kia: Targeting Masses with Affordable EVs
After unveiling the EV3, Kia intends to introduce the EV4 sedan. The brand’s strategy is to prioritize the affordability of these two new models to attract a significant market share. Lowering the price of electric vehicles is a primary concern for all automakers, whether it’s Tesla or BYD.
Kia aims to position itself as a key player in the inexpensive EV segment by introducing a diverse range of upcoming models. According to a Kia representative, the company plans to rival leading Chinese auto manufacturers like BYD and Geely.
The Chinese EV makers are known for offering electric cars at reasonable prices while maintaining similar quality to reputable market players. Last October, Kia announced that the EV3, EV4, and compact electric SUV EV5 would be priced between $35,000 (₹29 lakh) and $50,000 (₹41.7lakh).
Wrapping Up
At present, Kia hasn’t disclosed details about the battery capacity, range, electric motor power, and acceleration metrics for the EV3.
In the Indian market, the Korean automaker offers only one electric vehicle – the EV6. In terms of pricing, the GT Line trim comes with a price tag of ₹60.95 lakh. On the other hand, the GT Line AWD variant costs ₹65.95 lakh, both ex-showroom prices.
The upcoming Kia EV3 will hit the market later this year following its global debut on May 23, 2024. However, we’ll see if the EV3 compact SUV will become the second electric offering of the Korean brand in India.
