MG Motor India has disclosed its car sales figures for April 2024. The company sold 4485 passenger vehicles in the Indian market during the month. This represents a decrease in sales of 66 units, equating to a 1.4% year-on-year decline in car sales.
However, the automaker also revealed that electric vehicles (EVs) constituted 34% of its overall sales last month, translating to 1525 units.
In India, MG Motor offers a range of products in the passenger vehicle segment, consisting of five cars, including two electric vehicles.
- Comet EV (₹ 6.99 – ₹ 9.24 lakh)
- ZS EV (₹ 18.98 – ₹ 25.20 Lakh)
- Astor (₹ 9.98 – ₹ 17.90 Lakh)
- Hector (₹ 13.99 – ₹ 22.15 Lakh)
- Gloster (₹ 38.80 – ₹ 43.87 Lakh)
In the electric four-wheeler market, MG currently holds the second position in terms of market share, trailing behind Tata Motors. Furthermore, the automaker has recently refreshed its EV lineup, updating both the ZS EV and the Comet EV models.
Comet EV
The new fast charging (FC) feature is available on the Excite FC variant (₹ 8.23 lakh) and the Exclusive FC variant (₹ 9.13 lakh).
With the 7.4 kW AC fast charging option, you can charge the MG Comet under 3.5 hours (0-100%). Earlier, it used to take 7 hours with a 3.3 kW AC charger.
Despite the improvements, the range remains at 230 km on a single charge from the 17.3 kWh battery pack. However, the latest FC variants get new features, including:
- Rear disc brakes
- Electronic parking brake
- Electronic stability control (ESC)
- Hill-hold control,
- Power foldable ORVMs
- Turn indicator integrated DRLs
- Creep mode for manoeuvring and parking
ZS EV
MG Motor introduced two new variants for the ZS EV: the Excite Pro and Executive.
The Executive variant is the new entry-level option, while the Excite Pro represents the mid-range offering. Additionally, the automaker reduced the price of the electric compact SUV.
Equipped with a 50.3 kWh battery pack, the MG ZS EV has a claimed range of 461 km. Its electric motor delivers a max power output of 173 bhp and a peak torque of 280 Nm.
It will take around 60 minutes to go from 0 to 80% with the 50 kW DC fast charging. Meanwhile, with the 7.4 kWh AC charger, the charging time will increase to over 8.5 hours.
ZS EV comes with a feature-loaded cabin which includes:
- 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Automatic climate control
- Panoramic sunroof
- Cruise control
- 360-degree camera
- Blind spot warning, lane change assist, and rear parking assist.
MG Motor plans to expand its presence in Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities and rural markets. Moreover, it aims to achieve complete coverage nationwide with 520 touchpoints across 270 cities by the end of FY2024.
Despite experiencing a decline in car sales, MG Motor has been gradually establishing its position in the Indian market. Furthermore, the company will look to promote and introduce EVs electric vehicles (EVs) after witnessing an increase in EV sales.
