After introducing the X-Trail in India, Nissan plans to launch the Ariya e-SUV in the upcoming months. Introduced worldwide in 2020, the Ariya was seen undergoing tests in India last year.
Built on the CMF-EV electric vehicle platform of the Renault Nissan Alliance, the Ariya shares its architecture with the Renault Megane e-Tech electric SUV.
The Ariya SUV is Nissan’s response to competitors such as the Tesla Model Y and the Volkswagen ID.4 SUVs in international markets. However, in India, the e-SUV will compete with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and Mini Countryman Electric.
Ariya EV: Powertrain and Range
In the international market, the Ariya EV is available with single-motor RWD and twin-motor AWD configurations. Furthermore, it comes with two battery capacities: 63kWh and 87kWh.
The smaller 63kWh battery variant produces 217hp and 300Nm of torque, with an estimated range of 402km. The bigger 87kWh version generates 242hp and 300Nm of torque, offering a claimed range of 529km.
However, the top-tier 87kWh Ariya model delivers 306hp and 600Nm of torque, promising a range of up to 513km.
Ariya EV: Design
The SUV features a sleek design that resembles the concept showcased in 2019. The Nissan Ariya has the updated ‘design’ shield and, in select markets, features an illuminated Nissan logo.
The electric SUV’s design stands out with its coupe-like profile, highlighted by a prominent shoulder line that seamlessly connects the front and rear. Also, the Ariya rides on either 19-inch or 20-inch wheels, depending on the market and trim level.
Ariya EV: Interior and Safety
The interior gives off a clean and minimalist aesthetic. Moreover, the dashboard features two expansive 12.3-inch screens with a few physical buttons. A unique haptic control setup manages most of the operations. Additionally, higher-end models feature a standard heads-up display and an advanced Bose audio system.
The Ariya boasts advanced driver assistance features, including an upgraded version of Nissan’s ProPilot system. Also, the e-SUV underwent testing in 2022 and received a top-rated five-star crash-test rating from Euro NCAP.
Wrapping Up
The Ariya SUV will likely occupy the top position in Nissan’s lineup in India. Competing in the high-end SUV market, the Ariya will have limited availability, with the first batch of units already imported.
Nissan will likely price the upcoming Ariya EV around Rs 35-40 lakh (ex-showroom). The Japanese automaker is preparing to introduce the X-Trail SUV, which will be available for sale starting August 1st.
