Nissan recently introduced the fourth-generation X-Trail SUV in India. The SUV hits the market on August 1 and will be available as a CBU unit, suggesting a premium price tag.
With the launch of the X-Trail, Nissan India will expand its lineup, which previously featured only the Magnite subcompact SUV.
Engine and Gearbox
In India, the X-Trail will be available with only one engine: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with variable compression and a mild-hybrid system.
Nissan introduced the fourth-generation model globally in 2021, offering an e-Power series hybrid powertrain option. The e-POWER system and e-4ORCE all-wheel drive enhance its off-road capabilities. However, the India-specific model will have a standard continuous variable transmission (CVT) that sends power to the front wheels.
The seven-seater SUV will generate around 161 bhp and up to 300 Nm of torque. Moreover, according to Nissan, the X-Trail will deliver a fuel efficiency of 13.7 kmpl.
Dimensions and Design
The upcoming X-Trail will use Nissan’s CMF-C platform. Although the SUV comes with both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations globally, only the 7-seat variant will be available in India.
The SUV’s dimensions are as follows: it is 4,680 mm long, 1,840 mm wide, and 1,725 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,705 mm. Furthermore, the X-Trail will have a ground clearance of 210 mm.
Additionally, the SUV has 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, claddings on wheel arches and underbody, faux roof rails, and wraparound LED taillamps. Also, it features a roof-mounted spoiler with an integrated LED stop lamp.
Interior and Features
Inside, expect premium materials and a refined look. The dashboard will have a flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
In terms of features, the X-trail includes:
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Electronic parking brake with auto hold
- Wireless phone charger
- Panoramic sunroof
The second row is a bench-style design with a split of 40:20:40, and it can slide and recline. The third row has a split of 50:50 and can fold down and recline. Folding the third row opens up 585 litres of boot space, which increases to 1424 litres with the second and third rows folded.
Expected Price of Nissan X-trail in India
Since X-trail will be available as a CBU unit, expect a premium price of around Rs. 40 lakh and Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom). The upcoming SUV will compete with Skoda Kodiaq (Rs. 39.99 lakh), the Jeep Meridian (Rs. 29.49 lakh-Rs. 39.83 lakh) and MG Gloster (Rs. 38.80 lakh).
