Switching from an ICE vehicle to an EV model can be exhausting. Which car to buy, what budget to set, which variant to choose, and other lists of things take time. Most people, when buying an electric vehicle for the first time, consider a reliable and least expensive model, like the Tata Tiago EV.
The Indian manufacturer launched the Tiago EV in 2022. At that time, it was the least expensive electric car in India. It held that position until MG released its Comet EV.
However, Tiago EV is still in demand among customers, as it is a practical and family-oriented option. Now, this electric hatchback is available in four variants, making your choice more difficult. But worry not! In this article, we’ll guide you in selecting the Tiago EV model that best fits your budget, is feature-rich, and is value for money.
Variant | Medium Range (MR) 3.3kW | Long Range (LR) 3.3kW | Long Range (LR) 7.2 kW |
---|---|---|---|
XE | Rs. 7,99,000 | ||
XT | Rs. 8,99,000 | Rs. 9,99,000 | |
XZ Plus | Rs. 10,89,000 | Rs. 11,39,000 | |
XZ Plus Lux | Rs. 11,39,000 | Rs. 11,89,000 |
Tata Tiago EV XE
The XE entry-level version comes with a smaller battery option, 3.3kW, and has a price tag of Rs. 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The two driving modes, Drive and Sport, enhance your control over the driving experience.
Motor Power | 75 PS (around 74 bhp) |
Torque | 170 Nm of torque |
Battery Pack | 16.6 kWh |
Range | ARAI-certified 213 km |
Several essential features you would expect from a vehicle priced at Rs 8.0 lakh are missing. However, the XE trim does include:
Functional | Safety |
---|---|
12V front power outlet | Tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS) |
Tilt steering | Puncture repair kit |
Day/night inside mirror | Front seatbelt load limiters |
Internally adjustable outside mirrors | Puncture Repair Kit |
Connected car tech | Rear Parking Assist |
Tata Tiago EV XT (MR and LR)
The Tiago EV XT model is priced at Rs. 8.99 lakh, which is Rs. 1.0 lakh more than the base model. By spending an additional Rs. 1.0 lakh, you can upgrade to the Tiago EV XT with the long-range model, priced at Rs. 9.99 lakh.
Motor Power | 75 PS (around 74 bhp) |
Torque | 114 Nm of torque |
Battery Pack | 24 kWh |
Range | ARAI-certified 213 km |
Compared to the basic XE model, the XT variant includes these extra features:
Interior | Others |
---|---|
7-inch Harman touchscreen | Remote central locking |
4x speakers | All power windows and mirrors |
Wired Android Auto and Apple Carplay | Follow-me-home headlamps |
FM, USB, Bluetooth | Piano black outside mirror with indicator |
Theatre dimming cabin lamps | Wheel covers |
Steering-mounted controls | 4 regen levels (regen off + 3) |
Tata Tiago EV XZ Plus
From the XZ Plus model onward, the Tiago EV comes with the bigger battery pack. The Tiago EV XZ Plus is priced at Rs. 10.89 lakh with the 3.3kW charger and Rs. 11.39 lakh with the more robust 7.2kW charger.
Motor Power | 75 PS (around 74 bhp) |
Torque | 114 Nm of torque |
Battery Pack | 24 kWh |
Range | ARAI-certified 315 km |
The XZ Plus model is fairly well-equipped, but it doesn’t meet the expectations for a hatchback priced around Rs. 11.0 lakh.
Functional | Safety |
---|---|
DRL | Rear Camera with Guidelines |
Cruise Control | Reverse parking sensor |
Height Adjustable Driver Seat | Rear Wiper Washer & Demister |
Hyperstyle Wheel | Rain Sensing Wiper |

Front USB C Type 45W | Front Fog Lamps |
Cooled Glovebox |
Tata Tiago EV XZ+ Lux
The Tata Tiago EV’s top-tier XZ Plus Lux model is priced at Rs. 11.39 lakh with the larger battery pack, making it Rs. 50,000 more expensive than the standard XZ Plus variant. Additionally, if you want a quicker AC charger, it will set you back another Rs. 50,000.
The powertrain specs of the LUX variant are similar to the XZ+ variant. However, there are a few additional features included in this variant, such as,
- PEPS
- Leatherette Seats
- Electric Tailgate Release
- Leatherette Steering Wheel
- 4 Tweeters
- Auto Dimming IRVM
So, Which Variant Should You Choose?
The entry model might seem quite basic, but it still offers good value. If you don’t mind foregoing several features and need to stick to a strict budget, it’s a viable option.
Unfortunately, the XT variant, which costs Rs. 1.0 lakh more than the XE variant, isn’t worth considering. For the incremental price, you won’t see any valuable updates.
Although you get noticeable and better features in the XZ+ and XZ+ Lux variants, at this price range you can consider Punch EV’s Adventure LR model. This Punch EV variant costs Rs 12.99 lakh but offers more range (421km) and has a bigger battery pack of 35kWh.
Furthermore, Punch EV has a compact SUV, offering more room than the Tiago EV and has a fresh exterior and interior design.
So, only the base variant XE or the XZ Plus Long Range 3.3kW is worth consideration. However, as an alternative, you can go for the Comet EV if you have a tight budget. Meanwhile, if the budget isn’t a problem, you should consider stretching for the Punch EV.
