MG (Morris Garages) plans to introduce a new model every 3–6 months, starting this festive season. As per multiple media sources, MG will launch the Cloud EV in India in the second week of September 2024. This comes more than a year after MG introduced Comet EV in India.
There have been multiple Cloud EV test mules on Indian roads. Also, MG recently asked for a patent for the electric model. So, this September, here’s what you can expect from the vehicle:
Expected Battery Choice in India
The MG Cloud EV is available with two different battery choices in the international market. One is a 37.9kWh battery that can travel 360km on a full charge, and the other is a 50.6kWh battery that can go 460km.
Regardless of the battery size, the EV uses a front-axle-mounted electric motor that produces 132bhp. MG will probably introduce the 50.6kWh battery option with its electric motor in India.
Design and Dimension
SAIC will sell the Cloud EV under the MG brand name in India, similar to the Comet EV. The Cloud is about 4,300mm long, making it slightly smaller than the Kia Carens and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The wheelbase of the EV measures 2,700mm.
The MG Cloud EV crossover will feature:
- Large front section with a full-width LED light bar
- Closed-off grille
- Wide air dam
- Projector headlamps
- Flush door handles
- Wrap-around glasshouse
- Integrated spoiler.
Interior Features
Inside, the dashboard and door trims of the EV will have clean, horizontal lines, contributing to its minimalist design. The car is likely to come equipped with twin digital displays for infotainment and instrumentation. Moreover, it will include:
- Connected car tech
- Panoramic sunroof
- Climate control
- Powered seats
- 360-degree camera
- ADAS.
What about the Price?
The Cloud EV will be MG’s third electric vehicle in India, joining the ZS EV and Comet EV. Reports suggest MG Motor India plans to price the Cloud EV under Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). For this, the model is expected to have a high level of localization, including its battery pack. When launched, the Cloud EV will compete with cars like the Tata Nexon EV, BYD e6, Mahindra XUV400, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX.
