Lamborghini Introduces Urus SE, World’s First Plug-in Hybrid Super SUV

With 312 km/h. top speed, Lamborghini Urus SE goes 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 11.2 seconds

Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur introduced the Lamborghini Urus SE, the first hybrid plug-in version of the Lamborghini Super SUV, in Malaysia after its successful debut at Auto China Beijing 2024 in April.

The Urus SE has a new design, improved aerodynamics, advanced onboard technology, and an 800 CV hybrid powertrain. With both thermal and electric power sources, the Urus SE has the highest torque and power values in its category.

Also, the Urus SE achieves an 80% reduction in emissions, making it stand out in its class.

Powertrain and Range

The Urus SE’s twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine works well with the electric powertrain. It produces 620 CV of power (456 kW) and 800 Nm of driving torque. The combustion engine, combined with an electric powertrain, delivers 192 CV (141 kW) and 483 Nm of torque.

A 25.9-kWh lithium-ion battery is placed under the load floor and above the rear differential. Inside the 8-speed automatic transmission, there’s a permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor. It can boost the V8 engine and provide traction, making the Urus SE a fully electric 4WD vehicle capable of traveling over 60 km in EV mode.

The Urus SE accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds. It has a top speed of 312 km/h. These figures make the Urus SE the most powerful Urus ever and the fastest production car in its category.

Design and Aerodynamics

Urus SE’s design highlights its sporty and muscular look. The front section has a new hood design with no cut-off line, which makes it look more continuous and athletic. New headlight clusters with matrix LED technology and a redesigned bumper and front grill give the Urus SE a fresh look inspired by Lamborghini’s bull logo.

At the back, the design takes cues from the Gallardo, making the lines flow better and giving the vehicle a sportier appearance. A new spoiler and diffuser at the rear increase the car’s downforce by 35% at high speeds compared to the Urus S.

Interiors

The cabin now has a larger screen, 12.3 inches, placed in the center of the dashboard. Also, it has a new version of the Human Machine Interface (HMI) that’s easier to use with updated graphics.

Lamborghini paid attention to details like the air vents, the anodized aluminum trim with the Y shape, and new coverings for the panel, seats, and dashboard. They also added a mechanical pushbutton panel for a better tactile feel.

Additionally, there’s a dedicated telemetry system for the SE and new displays for the driving assistance system, making it easier to understand the surrounding environment.

Different Driving Modes

The introduction of the hybrid powertrain combines the existing six Urus driving modes with four new Electric Performance Strategies (EPS), giving a total of eleven options. The modes include Strada, Sport, and Corsa for road and track use, and Neve, Sabbia, and Terra for different surface grips, along with EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance, and Recharge.

EV Drive lets the driver fully utilize the electric power, especially designed for city driving, providing over 60 km of electric range and speeds over 130 km/h. The V8 engine kicks in above 130 km/h or when more torque is needed. Depending on the driving mode, the air springs adjust the ground clearance, ranging from 15 mm in Corsa mode to 75 mm with the lifting system activated.

The steering, drivability, and sound of the twin-turbo V8 engine can also be adjusted based on the selected driving mode, giving the Urus SE its unique personality.
