Kia Motors plans to unveil multiple affordable electric vehicles across its worldwide portfolio. Last year, the South Korean automaker revealed its electric vehicles: EV3, EV4, and EV5. But the carmaker aims to offer a compact and cost-effective electric SUV, Kia Clavis (EV2), for future release.
The company plans to launch these EVs in multiple international markets and is eyeing a potential entry into India. However, according to several reports, the Clavis EV may be launched in India in 2025. Moreover, the debut of models like the EV3, EV4, and EV5 in India might happen around 2025-26.
Spy Video Leaks of Kia Clavis
Last December, Kia registered the name “Clavis” as a trademark in India. Furthermore, the company tested the Clavis ICE version on the road in Hyderabad a few days ago. Upon release, the Korean automaker will position the car above Sonet in the brand’s lineup.
But what’s interesting is that the Clavis (EV2) was recently spotted testing in South Korea. It means Kia is gearing up to launch both the ICE and EV variants of the EV2. In addition, the carmaker plans EV2 to be the entry-level for its premium electric offerings in India.
Design Details of Kia Clavis
The design aspects remained unchanged for both the ICE and EV vehicles spotted during testing. Based on the testing video, it appears that the car will have a boxy appearance.
Further, the front will feature a squared-off bonnet and fenders. The vehicle is likely to have vertically mounted LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and headlamps. Also, expect the Clavis EV to come with noticeable roof rails.
Notable on the side profile are the 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. However, this setup may change with the final production model.
Kia might make slight modifications in the front and rear to differentiate between the ICE and EV models. EV-specific badging could appear on the exterior and interior of the EV2.
Other Details
According to multiple reports, the EV2, EV3, EV4, and EV5 will share Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform. However, the Korean brand didn’t share details regarding the battery pack size or the range of the upcoming SUV.
The price point is likely to draw the most attention to the Clavis EV (EV2). Reports suggest that the expected price is around $15,000. That means the price range would be roughly around Rs 12-12.5 lakh. Once launched, it will be the most affordable Kia EV on sale in the country.
