Bajaj Auto achieved a significant milestone when it launched the Bajaj Freedom 125 today. It is the world’s first motorcycle fueled by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and petrol. Moreover, it allows riders to seamlessly transition between petrol and CNG with the touch of a button.
Test prototypes of the Bajaj CNG motorcycle have been spotted multiple times in the past year. Also, earlier this week, Bajaj released teasers that partially show the outline of the CNG bike. However, now the bike is here, and we will share some important details with you.
Launch of the Freedom 125
Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, unveiled the world’s first CNG motorcycle. Speaking to the press, Gadkari stated that the operating cost of the CNG bike will be about Re 1/km. Furthermore, the Bajaj Freedom 125 comes with a 2 kg CNG tank.
The bike runs on a 125cc single-cylinder engine capable of operating on petrol and CNG. Notably, the engine generates 9.5 PS and 9.7 Nm of maximum torque and offers a range of 300 km.
Bajaj will introduce the Freedom 125 CNG bike in three different models, with pricing beginning at Rs 95,000 (ex-showroom)
- NG04 Drum: Rs 95,000
- Drum LED: Rs 1.05 lakh
- Disc LED: Rs 1.10 lakh
Note that all prices are ex-showroom.
Freedom 125 Notable Features
The bike features a shared fuel tank cap cover for both CNG and petrol refueling. The CNG tank is positioned beneath the seat, as predicted earlier. The standout feature is the reverse LED display with Bluetooth capability.
In addition, buyers can choose from seven color choices: Carribean Blue, Pewter Grey/Black, Cyber White, Ebony Black/Grey, Racing Red, Cyber White, Pewter Grey/Yellow, and Ebony Black/Red.
According to Bajaj, the Freedom 125 CNG motorcycle boasts the longest seat in its category, measuring 785mm in height. Some other notable features include a sturdy trellis frame and a connected monoshock suspension.
Freedom 125 Global Release?
Bajaj aims to launch the bike in the international market (six countries), such as Egypt and Bangladesh. Also, the company plans to gradually roll out deliveries of the Freedom 125 across the country from the next quarter.
CNG-powered cars have been around for over a decade. However, this is the first time when such technology has been introduced in a motorcycle.
Bajaj made history in the automotive industry when it launched a CNG-powered three-wheeler, the Bajaj RE autorickshaw, in 1999. And now, with Bajaj Freedom 125, the company reached another milestone in the auto sector.
